Updated

Anchorage Digital and Securitize have partnered to enable direct minting and redemption of stablecoins through Anchorage Digital Bank, aiming to provide institutional investors with streamlined access to digital dollars for trading tokenized assets. Anchorage Digital Bank will manage the custody and settlement for these operations.

This collaboration significantly expands Securitize’s settlement infrastructure, which currently supports over $4 billion in tokenized assets. Securitize has established partnerships with major financial institutions, including BlackRock, Apollo, BNY, Hamilton Lane, KKR, and VanEck.

As a federally chartered crypto bank in the U.S., Anchorage Digital Bank’s involvement ensures that stablecoin operations are conducted under federal oversight, offering institutions a single point of contact for custody and settlement.

The stablecoin ecosystem facilitated by Anchorage Digital Bank includes USDtb, a stablecoin developed with Ethena Labs, and USA₮, created in partnership with Tether. A key component of this ecosystem is BlackRock’s BUIDL fund, tokenized by Securitize, which serves as a primary reserve asset for USDtb. According to Anchorage Digital Bank’s reserve report, as of August 31, approximately 99% of USDtb’s $530 million in reserves were held in BUIDL.

Nathan McCauley, cofounder and CEO of Anchorage Digital, highlighted that the agreement allows institutions to access federally issued digital dollars using the same infrastructure that supports their tokenized investment products. Securitize, traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker SECZ, has been actively broadening its institutional tokenization services. This includes a March partnership with the NYSE to develop infrastructure for trading tokenized securities.

The new agreement extends Securitize’s operational capabilities beyond tokenized securities to include the stablecoins essential for transaction settlement, reflecting a broader trend of financial institutions integrating blockchain technology into traditional financial markets.
