Thousands of Transfers Suggest Automated Laundering of Stolen Binance Assets
Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis has identified suspected automated laundering patterns following a significant theft from the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. The firm’s investigation, which began on October 30, revealed that attackers moved stolen Binance assets through thousands of transactions, a tactic suggesting a sophisticated, automated effort to obscure the origin of the funds.
Chainalysis’s analysis uncovered previously unseen laundering methods employed by the perpetrators. The sheer volume and complexity of the transactions indicate a deliberate attempt to make tracing the stolen cryptocurrency exceedingly difficult. Furthermore, the investigation has linked the theft to North Korean hackers, a group known for its involvement in cryptocurrency-related illicit activities.
