Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, announced it may temporarily pause Ethereum network deposits and withdrawals on October 28 due to scheduled wallet maintenance. The maintenance is expected to last approximately one hour, during which token trading on the Ethereum network will not be affected, according to the exchange.
In addition to the network maintenance, Binance will delist a number of spot and margin trading pairs on October 30. The exchange stated that these delistings are part of a rigorous review process to ensure listed pairs meet required standards, such as adequate liquidity and trading volume. Binance assured that the delisting of a spot trading pair does not impact the availability of the underlying tokens on Binance Spot, and users can still trade the base and quote assets through other available trading pairs.
Specifically, Binance will delist twelve spot trading pairs: AAVE/BTC, ATOM/BTC, CAKE/BTC, DASH/BTC, ETC/BTC, ICP/BTC, PENDLE/BTC, RENDER/BTC, TAO/BTC, THETA/BTC, XAUT/BTC, and XTZ/BTC. Furthermore, ten margin trading pairs are also slated for delisting on the same date. The specific list of these ten margin trading pairs has not yet been disclosed.
This is not the first time Binance has conducted maintenance on the Ethereum network; the exchange previously paused transfers on the network in August. Similarly, Binance has a history of delisting assets or trading pairs. Earlier this month, the exchange removed Epic Chain (EPIC) and QuickSwap (QUICK), which reportedly was associated with severe price crashes for those specific tokens. However, the announcement reads that the current delistings of trading pairs have not triggered major price movements for the involved cryptocurrencies. This muted reaction is attributed to the fact that stronger market reactions typically occur when Binance discontinues all services for an entire digital asset, rather than specific trading pairs.
Binance has a track record of performing numerous wallet maintenance events throughout the year without significant reported issues or user complaints. The exchange also previously suspended TRX deposits and withdrawals at an earlier point. While the specific criteria Binance uses for evaluating trading pairs remain undisclosed, the exchange emphasized its commitment to handling all user-related technical requirements during the maintenance period. The delisting of margin trading pairs is a separate process from the spot trading pair delistings.
