Bitcoin Recovers to $84,000 as Traders Await Inflation Data
Bitcoin has rebounded to $84,000 after a brief dip to $81,000, as buyers stepped in to defend a key support level ahead of the release of the latest US Consumer Price Index (CPI) report. Historically, Bitcoin has shown a tendency to trade higher in the 24 hours following CPI announcements, with 12 out of the previous 15 releases seeing positive movement. When inflation figures have undershot expectations, Bitcoin has closed higher the following day in eight out of nine instances. Lower inflation readings often provide the Federal Reserve with greater flexibility to cut interest rates, a move that typically benefits risk assets like Bitcoin.
Market Anticipation Builds
The cryptocurrency market is currently trading within a tight range as investors await the crucial US inflation report. Bitcoin’s price action demonstrated resilience, bouncing from approximately $81,000, indicating that buyers remain committed to defending this price point.
Potential Scenarios for Bitcoin’s Next Move
Three distinct scenarios could influence Bitcoin’s trajectory in the coming days:
The US September CPI report is slated for release today. Market analysts anticipate inflation figures to fall between 3.6% and 3.7%, a slight increase from the previous reading of 3.4%.
A higher-than-expected inflation reading could trigger selling pressure on Bitcoin as traders re-evaluate the Federal Reserve’s stance on interest rates. Conversely, a lower inflation print would likely provide support for BTC, potentially propelling it above the $84,000 mark.
Market-implied probabilities for a Federal Reserve rate hike at its October 28 meeting have reportedly edged up from 16% to 18%, though the overall likelihood remains low.
Altcoins Face Pressure
Ethereum, SUI, and TAO have also experienced declines as the market adopts a cautious approach pending the CPI data.
Ethereum dipped to around $2,409, nearing its previous weekly low of $2,406. A sustained recovery above $2,556 would be necessary to improve its short-term outlook.
SUI briefly traded below the $1 mark before recovering. The $1 level serves as immediate support, with subsequent resistance expected at $1.13 and $1.21. A breach below its 50-day moving average, currently near $0.92, could further weaken its prospects.
TAO saw a decline to approximately $262 before regaining ground towards $276. Its critical support level is situated near $265, while resistance is identified at $298 and the $305–$309 range.
Altcoins, in general, remain vulnerable to further selling pressure, particularly as traders maintain a significant number of long positions. Any substantial market downturn could lead to cascading liquidations.
Bitcoin’s immediate price direction hinges on the CPI outcome and its ability to maintain the $81,000 support. A daily close above $84,000 would bolster a bullish sentiment, whereas a decisive break below $81,000 could bring the $77,153 level into play. Until the inflation data is released and Bitcoin establishes a clear breakout from its current trading range, its next significant price movement remains uncertain.
