Bitcoin Recovers After Brief Dip Below $80,000

Bitcoin is trading at $82,295, marking a 1.28% increase over the past 24 hours, following a slide on Thursday that saw it dip below the $80,000 mark for the first time in over a month. The recovery comes as the broader cryptocurrency market shows signs of a rebound after a week of declines.

Market Movements

Ethereum saw a significant gain of 4.17%, reaching $2,473.17. Solana rose by 3.02%, and XRP added 2.03% to its value. Among the top 15 largest cryptocurrencies, Zcash emerged as the strongest performer, surging 10.29% to $1,222.02. This jump boosted its market capitalization to $20.67 billion, effectively reversing nearly all of the almost 10% it lost on Thursday.

Market Dynamics and Liquidations

The current market bounce follows a period where most cryptocurrencies trended downwards throughout the week. Thursday’s price drop triggered approximately $948 million in liquidations, with 90.6% of these affecting long positions, according to data from CoinGlass. Liquidations occur when a trade funded by borrowed money is forcibly closed due to losses depleting the collateral. A long position represents a bet on rising prices, meaning that selling pressure can exacerbate further declines.

Technical Analysis

On the daily chart, Bitcoin is currently positioned near a significant resistance level at $81,603. This level is often identified by traders as a point where pullbacks may find buying interest. Thursday’s price action saw a wick dip to $79,711, falling below this resistance and also below the 50-day exponential moving average (EMA), which is currently at $80,407. The 50-day EMA gives greater weight to recent prices.

The 200-day EMA is situated at $75,759, approximately 8% below the current trading price. With the 50-day EMA trading above the 200-day EMA, the long-term trend for Bitcoin remains bullish.

The Average Directional Index (ADX), a technical indicator that measures trend strength without regard to direction, stands at 25.5. This is just above the 25 line, which is generally considered to confirm a trend. Currently, sellers’ directional indicator (DI-) is leading buyers’ (DI+). The Relative Strength Index (RSI), a momentum gauge ranging from 0 to 100, with levels above 70 indicating overbought conditions and below 30 indicating oversold conditions, is at 48.9. This suggests a neutral stance with a slight inclination towards selling pressure.

Market Predictions

On Myriad, a prediction market operated by Dastan, the parent company of Decrypt, traders have lowered their odds of Bitcoin reaching a high of $87,500 in October to 31%, down from 45% on Tuesday. In a separate market on Myriad, traders now estimate a 43% chance that Bitcoin will fall to $77,500.

Potential Scenarios

For a bullish continuation, buyers would need to defend the $81,603 level and achieve a close above $84,246. This could open the path to further upside targets at $85,301, $86,644, and the recent high of $87,423, ideally confirmed by a rising ADX.

A sideways scenario would see Bitcoin trading within the range of the $80,365 swing low and $84,246.

The bearish scenario would commence with a daily close below $81,603, bringing $80,407 and $80,365 into focus. Further downside could extend to $78,003 and the critical zone between $75,759 and $75,093, where the 200-day EMA converges with the 50% Fibonacci retracement level.
