Bitcoin Surges Past $80K, Defying Schiff's Crash Prediction

Bitcoin Recovers Above $80,000 Following Peter Schiff’s Downward Price Prediction

The recent downturn in Bitcoin’s price, which saw the cryptocurrency dip to a five-week low of $79,000, has once again coincided with vocal criticism from prominent gold advocate Peter Schiff. Schiff, known for his persistent bearish outlook on Bitcoin, reiterated his predictions of doom for the digital asset and the broader cryptocurrency industry.

Yesterday’s market movement saw Bitcoin fall below the $80,000 mark for the first time since September 18, reaching a low of just over $79,000. Schiff took to X, formerly Twitter, to declare that “Bitcoin is finally breaking down,” expressing surprise that the asset had “held up this long.” He further predicted that Bitcoin would inevitably drop to $75,000 over the weekend, warning of a “very long weekend for Bitcoiners, especially for ETF investors who can’t sell until Monday.”

However, Schiff’s forecast did not materialize as expected. Bitcoin experienced a swift rebound, reclaiming the $80,000 level and even touching $81,000. While the cryptocurrency saw a slight retreat on Sunday morning, it has maintained its position above $80,000, significantly exceeding Schiff’s weekend target by $5,500.

Crypto analyst Willy Woo was among the first to highlight Schiff’s latest prediction, humorously noting that Schiff serves as an “immensely valuable to the BTC community as a counter signal.”

Schiff’s history of bearish calls on Bitcoin dates back to at least 2018-2019. During the 2018 bear market, he predicted a crash to $750, a forecast that did not come to pass. A year later, he asserted that Bitcoin would never reach $50,000. In 2021, while acknowledging Bitcoin might briefly touch $100,000, he maintained that a permanent drop to zero was “inevitable.”

During the subsequent major bear market in 2022, as Bitcoin fell below $20,000, Schiff doubled down on his stance that the asset would not recover to $50,000. In 2024, he warned that the launch of Bitcoin ETFs would result in a lack of demand and a subsequent price crash. In contrast, investors have poured over $55 billion into Bitcoin ETFs, with BlackRock’s offering notably outperforming gold products in its debut year.

More recently, in July of this year, when Bitcoin was trading below $65,000, Schiff advised investors that they would regret not selling at that level. Bitcoin subsequently surged within the following month.
