Bitcoin Surges Past $80,000, Ethereum Tops $2,400 as US Stocks Rally
Bitcoin continued its upward momentum, breaking the $80,000 mark, while Ethereum simultaneously climbed above $2,400. Following the opening bell, major US stock indices including the Dow Jones, S&P 500, and Nasdaq all experienced collective gains.
Bitcoin (BTC) extended its earlier rebound on the evening of November 4th, Taipei time, with spot prices decisively surpassing the $80,000 psychological barrier. Ethereum (ETH) also concurrently rose above $2,400. According to CoinGecko data, around 11:12 PM, Bitcoin was trading at approximately $80,500, marking a 24-hour increase of about 4%. Ethereum was priced around $2,430, up approximately 6%.
During the same period, a warmer sentiment for risk assets emerged in the US stock market after its opening. The three major indices turned positive, mirroring the upward trend in the cryptocurrency market.
Yahoo Finance data indicated that after the US stock market opened on November 4th, Taipei time, the S&P 500 was trading around 7,698 points, up about 1.7%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a rise of approximately 2.0%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained about 2.4%. The synchronized ascent of these indices suggests a renewed appetite for risk assets.
Bitcoin had been trading in a range near $79,000 earlier, before surging past $80,000 within tens of minutes. Ethereum, meanwhile, advanced from around $2,350 to above $2,400. The breach of these significant price levels can often trigger a cascade of stop-loss orders and short-covering, accelerating gains beyond what individual news events might suggest.
The simultaneous positive movement in cryptocurrencies and US stocks indicates that the current market upturn is not merely a technical rebound for a single asset but rather a broader resurgence in risk appetite. For spot holders, maintaining prices above $80,000 for Bitcoin and $2,400 for Ethereum would be crucial for sustaining the momentum that began with the recovery from recent lows. However, if the gains are primarily driven by short-covering without sufficient follow-through from spot buyers, prices above these key levels may still face testing of support.
Key areas to watch moving forward are specific: whether Bitcoin can establish a firm footing above $80,000, if Ethereum can hold its ground above $2,400, and if US stocks can maintain their opening gains through the close. When risk assets move in tandem, the amplifying effect of leverage on volatility also tends to increase.
