Leveraged Crypto ETFs Delayed Amid Election Uncertainty

GraniteShares has postponed the planned launch of eight proposed leveraged cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs), pushing their effective date to November 30, 2026. The decision, detailed in an amendment filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on October 26, comes just days before the November 3 midterm elections, prompting questions about the timing of regulatory actions.

The delay affects products designed to track Bitcoin, XRP, Ethereum, and Solana. GraniteShares ETF Trust filed a post-effective amendment to delay the effectiveness of a prior registration amendment until the new date.

The filing encompasses eight proposed products, including 3X long and 3X short daily ETFs for XRP, Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana. These funds aim to deliver three times the daily price movements of their underlying assets, in either direction, by employing financial instruments such as swaps and futures.

The amendment explicitly states its purpose is to delay the effective date of the earlier filing. It does not indicate an SEC rejection of the products nor does it provide a specific reason for the revised timeline.

GraniteShares’ move to pause these highly leveraged crypto ETFs occurs against a backdrop of market uncertainty surrounding the U.S. midterm elections and the Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy decisions. The delay, occurring just eight days before the elections where all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats are contested, comes at a time when potential shifts in congressional control could influence future cryptocurrency regulations. This political uncertainty may be contributing to investor caution regarding increased risk exposure.

Adding to market volatility, the Federal Reserve’s meeting on October 27-28 is also a significant factor. While interest rates are widely expected to remain unchanged at 3.75%–4.00%, any unforeseen indications regarding future rate adjustments could impact cryptocurrency prices.

The updated filing designates November 30, 2026, as the planned effective date for the registration amendment. However, this date does not guarantee that all eight funds will commence trading on that specific day.
