Veteran Trader’s XRP Doubts Meet Counterpoint on Price Targets
Veteran trader Peter Brandt has labeled XRP a “fool coin,” despite his own chart analysis suggesting a potential price target of $5.40. Versan Aljarrah, founder of Black Swan Capitalist, explained to Coinpedia that this apparent contradiction is easily resolved: a price target represents a trading projection, not an endorsement of an asset’s fundamental value.
Brandt’s Skepticism on XRP’s Investment Merit
Brandt, a market veteran with over four decades of trading experience, has publicly questioned whether XRP’s utility in payment systems translates into genuine investment value. In a recent interview, he argued that a transactional use case does not inherently increase an asset’s worth. His broader commentary also indicated a preference for Ether and Solana, while cautioning investors against pursuing nascent cryptocurrency tokens.
“A Target is a Trade, Not a Thesis”
Aljarrah sought to reframe the discussion, emphasizing that a chart’s projections are independent of the analyst’s personal beliefs. “A chart doesn’t care what the person drawing it believes,” he stated. According to Aljarrah, Brandt’s $5.40 price prediction indicates a potential price movement, but it does not address the underlying significance of XRP. He highlighted that conflating these two distinct aspects is a common source of confusion.
Aljarrah’s Critique of Brandt’s Argument
Aljarrah’s primary objection centered on Brandt’s “fool coin” designation. “Calling an asset a fool’s coin while ignoring what’s been built around it isn’t analysis, it’s an opinion,” he asserted. He pointed to three key developments that he believes Brandt overlooks.
A Fair Debate on XRP’s Future
Aljarrah acknowledged that the ultimate success of XRP as a bridge asset for global settlement remains an open question. “Whether XRP ultimately wins as the bridge asset in global settlement is a fair debate, and I always hold that view with humility,” he said. However, he contended that dismissing XRP’s fundamentals means disregarding the ongoing transformation in payments, tokenization, and settlement. “That’s the part I’d push back on hardest,” he added.
Advice for Investors
Aljarrah advised investors to cultivate their own investment theses, utilize charts as analytical tools rather than predictive oracles, and establish entry and exit strategies in advance to mitigate the impact of market volatility. He concluded with a pointed assessment of Brandt’s position, stating, “He’s a fool in my humble opinion, like most people in this ecosystem.”
