CF Benchmarks Launches Oracle Service for Blockchain Applications

CF Benchmarks, a UK FCA-regulated benchmark administrator, has launched CFB Oracle, a service designed to deliver its market indices directly to blockchain applications. The service aims to provide blockchain applications with access to CF Benchmarks’ real-time market indices across various asset classes, including crypto, stocks, bonds, commodities, and currencies.
Owned by Payward, the parent company of the Kraken exchange, CF Benchmarks’ pricing data is already utilized in traditional finance products such as BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF and CME Group’s crypto futures. CFB Oracle delivers data via an API, with each data point featuring a cryptographic signature to ensure verification and prevent tampering.
Initially, CFB Oracle will support networks including Ethereum, Ink, HyperEVM, and Robinhood Chain, with plans to expand to more EVM-compatible networks over time. CF Benchmarks states that its onchain indices follow regulated methodologies under the UK Benchmarks Regulation, similar to those used for over $500 billion in settled regulated contracts.
The introduction of CFB Oracle offers potential benefits for both decentralized finance (DeFi) builders and traders. For developers, it provides a recognized price source for institutional users. For traders, the use of cryptographically signed, regulated data feeds could offer increased resistance to manipulation in onchain markets, addressing historical vulnerabilities in thinner markets that could be exploited to trigger liquidations or affect collateral values.
While the service is now live, certain related offerings are still pending regulatory approval. This includes a perpetual futures offering powered by Hyperliquid, which is contingent on regulatory sign-off. Any specific products that intend to rely on CFB Oracle feeds will also require their own regulatory approval before launch.
The initial network support highlights connections within the industry, with Ink being a layer-2 network associated with Kraken, and Robinhood Chain bringing in a major retail brokerage firm with its own blockchain initiatives. HyperEVM is part of the Hyperliquid ecosystem, a platform noted for its significant volume and open interest in perpetual futures.
