Circle built its business on putting dollars onto blockchains. Now its own stock is getting the same treatment, and it didn’t have to lift a finger.
Tokenized Shares Dominate Market
Tokenized versions of Circle Internet Group’s shares (NYSE: CRCL) remain the largest tokenized stock on the market, boasting a combined market capitalization of $385.7 million. Data from Token Terminal, released on October 25, 2026, indicates a staggering year-over-year growth of 2,961%.
Tokenized stocks function similarly to a coat check ticket. A real share is entrusted to a custodian, who then issues a blockchain-based token representing that share. This token can subsequently be traded, lent, or integrated into decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. In the case of Circle shares, these tokens are designed to be backed 1:1 by underlying NYSE shares held by regulated custodians, with each token corresponding to one real share held in safekeeping.
Estimates for the total tokenized CRCL market cap in mid-to-late October 2026 ranged from approximately $373 million to $393 million, with the $385.7 million figure falling comfortably within this band.
Key Issuers and Network Concentration
Three primary issuers dominate the supply of tokenized Circle shares: Binance’s bStocks platform (CRCLb), xStocks (CRCLx), and Ondo (CRCLon). Collectively, these platforms account for roughly 94% of the total tokenized CRCL market.
Binance’s bStocks leads this group, with its CRCLb token on the BNB Chain representing an estimated $149 million to $155 million in tokenized equity, making it the largest single wrapper for Circle shares across any blockchain. This concentration is also evident at the network level, with BNB Chain holding approximately 62% of all tokenized CRCL value as of late October. Solana serves as the other significant network for these tokens.
DeFi Integration and Unsolicited Adoption
Some of these tokenized shares are actively being utilized within DeFi protocols. As of October 20, 2026, $7.7 million worth of CRCLx was deployed in DeFi, enabling functions such as liquidity provision and lending.
Notably, Circle has not initiated or participated in the creation of these tokenized products. Instead, independent platforms began tokenizing CRCL shares following the company’s 2025 initial public offering (IPO). This model closely resembles unsponsored American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), a well-established structure where a third party packages a foreign company’s shares for investors in a different market without the company’s direct involvement.
The target audience for these tokens is largely comprised of international investors seeking exposure to U.S. equities but facing barriers to access through traditional brokerage channels.
Market Growth and Circle’s Prominence
The broader tokenized equity market has experienced substantial growth, expanding from under $20 million in late 2024 to achieve billion-dollar valuations by 2026. Circle’s tokenized shares have consistently held a leading position within this market.
For perspective, the tokenized portion of Circle’s equity remains a small fraction of its traditional market capitalization. Tokenized CRCL represents approximately 1.7% of Circle’s total equity market cap, which was valued between $20 billion and $22 billion following its 2025 IPO.
The prominence of Circle in tokenized stock rankings can be attributed to its audience fit. Crypto-native traders are already familiar with Circle as the issuer of USDC, making the prospect of holding its equity on familiar blockchain infrastructure a straightforward proposition.
Considerations for the Future
The concentration of issuers and network reliance warrants attention. With bStocks, xStocks, and Ondo controlling a significant majority of the supply, and BNB Chain hosting the bulk of the value, the market is heavily dependent on a limited number of platforms and a single network.
The reliability of tokenized stocks hinges on the integrity of their underlying custody arrangements. The 1:1 backing promise depends on regulated custodians holding the actual shares and on issuers maintaining this link through processes like redemptions and corporate actions, especially during periods of market stress.
Furthermore, the unsponsored nature of these tokens means that token holders are reliant on third-party issuers for the structure and maintenance of the product, rather than direct engagement with Circle.
The integration of tokenized equities into DeFi, exemplified by the $7.7 million of CRCLx in protocols, signifies their evolving role as financial building blocks, moving beyond mere price tracking mechanisms.
