Bitcoin Navigates Wild Week Amidst Election Uncertainty and Market Sell-off

Bitcoin has experienced a tumultuous week, with its price fluctuating between $75,000 and $81,000, influenced by financial market dynamics and the US midterm elections.

XRP Dips to August Lows, Hyperliquid Faces Deeper Correction

Ripple’s XRP has also felt the impact, ultimately falling to its lowest point since August, while Hyperliquid (HYPE) has dropped below $80 and is facing a potential for further decline.

At the beginning of the trading week, the primary cryptocurrency was priced around $78,000. However, the US midterm elections on November 4 introduced significant volatility. As indications grew that Democrats were poised to secure a decisive victory and regain control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, Bitcoin’s price dipped to approximately $76,000. Following the confirmation of their win, the resulting reduction in uncertainty fueled a substantial rebound, pushing the asset as high as $81,000.

This peak proved to be short-lived. A broad sell-off across global financial markets in the preceding 24 hours exerted considerable downward pressure on the cryptocurrency. While buyers have since stepped in to recoup some losses, Bitcoin was trading around $76,000 as of this report, according to CoinGecko.

The brief rally had sparked growing optimism within the crypto community. Among the bullish voices was X user Ted, who speculated on a potential move towards $87,000 if Bitcoin could reclaim the $82,000 level. Similarly, analyst Michael van de Poppe maintained that buyers would retain control as long as the asset stayed above the crucial support level of $79,000.

Concurrently, several warning signs had begun to emerge, potentially foreshadowing the subsequent decline. These included the transfer of thousands of coins from Trump Media Group to Crypto.com and from MARA Holdings to platforms such as Galaxy Digital and Copper. Historically, such movements have preceded price sell-offs. Meanwhile, The Kobeissi Letter reported that the Trump administration and the US military were finalizing preparations for “a possible resumption of major combat operations in Iran.”

XRP’s Volatility and Lack of Institutional Demand

Ripple’s native token also saw heightened volatility, briefly trading above $1.30 on November 5 as the broader market showed positive signs. However, it followed Bitcoin and many other cryptocurrencies in a downward trend on November 6, amid weakness in Wall Street trading.

In fact, XRP experienced a 9% decline over the past 24 hours, falling below $1.20. One potential factor contributing to its underperformance relative to its peers is a perceived lack of institutional demand. Spot XRP ETFs have struggled to attract new capital, with daily net inflows registering at $0 for two consecutive days. The investment vehicles, launched by firms including Bitwise, Franklin Templeton, Canary Capital, 21Shares, and Grayscale, have collectively accumulated $1.81 billion in net inflows since their inception.

Hyperliquid Faces Significant Price Drop Amidst Whale Activity

Hyperliquid’s native token has emerged as one of the week’s worst performers, with its valuation plummeting by 15% to approximately $78. Earlier this week, several analysts had cautioned that the asset could experience further declines in the near future.

Analyst Ali Martinez pointed to a potential head-and-shoulders top formation on the 12-hour chart, suggesting that a sustained close below the $76-$78 neckline could precede a sharp drop towards $59. The analytics firm FOUR | Crypto Spaces echoed this sentiment, predicting a collapse to $60 if bulls fail to defend the $77 zone.

Beyond the broader market downturn, a significant factor contributing to Hyperliquid’s plunge appears to be recent whale activity. Santiment data indicated that the token had surged above $95 following an endorsement by Stan Druckenmiller. However, within a single day, four whales reportedly closed their HYPE long positions entirely, realizing approximately $5 million in profits.
