JPMorgan's JPM Coin Expands to Ethereum, Enhancing Institutional On-Chain Capabilities

JPMorgan has expanded its JPM Coin deposit token to the Ethereum network, enabling institutional clients to conduct on-chain payments and peer-to-peer transfers across a broader segment of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) ecosystem, including both Ethereum and the Base network. This strategic move is part of JPMorgan’s ongoing efforts to integrate traditional financial instruments with blockchain technology.

JPM Coin, which represents deposits held at JPMorgan on a public blockchain, was initially launched on the Base network in November 2025. Its expansion to Ethereum offers institutional clients enhanced options for on-chain transactions. JPMorgan states that JPM Coin functions as a deposit token, distinct from a cryptocurrency or stablecoin, and crucially, that associated funds remain within the bank’s regulated infrastructure.

“Your funds never leave the firm’s regulated banking infrastructure. JPM Coin℠ is a new way to move and settle value using the same institutional safeguards your business already relies on,” the bank explained on its official website. This emphasis on regulated infrastructure underscores JPMorgan’s approach to digital asset integration.

The rollout of JPM Coin on Ethereum is proceeding in phases throughout 2026. Beyond Ethereum and Base, JPM Coin’s integration with the Canton Network, a blockchain tailored for financial markets, was announced in January of this year. This planned integration aims to facilitate near-instantaneous issuance, transfer, and redemption of JPMD (another designation for JPM Coin) within the Canton Network.

This expansion aligns with JPMorgan’s broader blockchain initiatives. The bank has previously launched tokenized money-market funds on the Ethereum network, with the first introduced in December 2025 and a subsequent one in May 2026. These actions collectively highlight JPMorgan’s strategy of bringing traditional financial products onto blockchain networks.

Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs at JPMorgan, noted the broader trend: “We’ve clearly been in a year of further convergence between Wall Street and crypto. It’s not just Wall Street going to public chains, but the institutional web3 players getting more embedded and partnering with traditional financial institutions.”

The expansion of JPM Coin to Ethereum provides institutional clients with advanced capabilities for on-chain payments and transfers within the EVM ecosystem, reflecting a continued convergence between traditional finance and blockchain infrastructure.
