Kalshi Nears $1B Raise at $40B Valuation

Kalshi, a prediction markets platform regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), is reportedly in advanced talks to secure approximately $1 billion in new funding. This investment would value the company at an estimated $40 billion. Tiger Global Management and Dragoneer Investment Group are among the prospective investors in this funding round.

Valuation Surge

Should the deal materialize, it would represent a significant valuation increase of nearly 82% from the $22 billion the company achieved just weeks prior during its Series F funding round. This rapid ascent is particularly striking given that Kalshi was valued at $5 billion as recently as October 2025, a growth trajectory that has captured the attention of venture capitalists.

Rapid Fundraising Pace

This potential $1 billion raise would mark the third time in approximately seven months that Kalshi has secured such a substantial amount. The company previously raised $300 million at a $5 billion valuation in October 2025, followed by $1 billion at $11 billion in December 2025. Most recently, in May 2026, it raised another $1 billion at a $22 billion valuation, with Coatue Management leading that round.

Investor Interest and Timeline

Existing investors, including Sequoia Capital, are reportedly considering leading the upcoming round, potentially alongside Wellington Management. The deal is expected to close within the coming weeks.

Driving the Frenzy

The remarkable growth is underscored by compelling financial metrics. Kalshi’s annualized trading volume has tripled to $178 billion in the six months leading up to its May funding round, a substantial increase from $52 billion. Institutional trading volume alone experienced an 800% surge during the same period, and the company’s annualized revenue now surpasses $1.5 billion. The platform currently holds over 90% of the U.S. prediction market activity.

Business Model and Founders

Kalshi enables users to trade contracts based on the outcomes of real-world events, encompassing elections, weather patterns, and sports results. The company was co-founded by Tarek Mansour and Luana Lopes Lara, who are reported to hold significant ownership stakes that position them as billionaires at the current valuations.

Regulatory Advantage

As a CFTC-regulated exchange, Kalshi operates within a compliant framework that allows institutional players, hedge funds, and asset managers to participate without encountering regulatory hurdles. The substantial increase in institutional volume suggests that sophisticated market participants increasingly view event contracts as a legitimate asset class for both hedging and speculative purposes.

Navigating Challenges

Kalshi’s dominant position in the U.S. prediction market has not been without its challenges. The company has encountered regulatory scrutiny in various states, necessitating navigation of a complex and often inconsistent regulatory landscape.

Competitive Positioning

The platform has also distinguished itself as a regulated alternative to cryptocurrency-based prediction markets, such as Polymarket. While Polymarket gained considerable traction during the 2024 U.S. presidential election, it operates outside of U.S. regulatory frameworks.

Retail Market Catalyst

The expansion of retail sports markets has been a significant catalyst for Kalshi, providing a consumer-facing use case that drives volume and enhances brand recognition beyond the traditional finance community.

Market Impact

At a $40 billion valuation, Kalshi would surpass the market capitalization of many publicly traded exchanges. If this funding round successfully closes, Kalshi will have raised over $3 billion in private capital in less than a year.
