Kraken xStocks Surpass 1,000 Tokenized Instruments

Kraken’s Tokenized Stock Offering Surges Past 1,000 Instruments

Kraken’s burgeoning selection of tokenized stocks has seen a dramatic expansion, with its xStocks lineup now boasting over 1,000 instruments as of October 22, 2026. This marks a significant leap from the 131 assets listed in the exchange’s September FAQ.

Rapid Expansion

The September 18, 2026 FAQ indicated 131 xStocks were available. By October 22, that number had surged past 1,000, representing a more than sevenfold increase in just over a month. The xStocks product, which debuted in June 2025 with an initial offering of 60 assets, experienced steady growth for over a year before its rapid acceleration this past fall.

Understanding xStocks

xStocks are essentially tokenized representations of U.S. equities and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Each token is backed one-to-one by the underlying stock or fund, which is held in regulated custody. While these tokens provide price exposure to the underlying securities, they do not confer shareholder rights.

The tokens are issued across multiple blockchains, including Solana, Ethereum, and BNB Chain. This multichain approach allows holders to move their tokens beyond the Kraken platform.

Performance Metrics

As of September 2026, cumulative transaction volume for xStocks had surpassed $40 billion. The value of backing assets had reached over $800 million, distributed among more than 300,000 unique holders. These figures reflect activity on a platform that was roughly one-eighth the size of its current offering.

Trading Features and Accessibility

Certain xStocks are available for 24/7 trading on Kraken Pro, freeing traders from the constraints of traditional market hours. The platform also supports fractional purchases. Once withdrawn from Kraken, these tokens can be integrated into decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.

xStocks are accessible to eligible clients in over 110 countries. However, U.S. persons are excluded, as are residents of several other jurisdictions, including the United Kingdom and Canada.

Strategic Market Positioning

Despite being built entirely around U.S. equities, the product is not available to Americans. Kraken has strategically designed the offering for international investors, sidestepping the complexities of U.S. securities regulations.

While the initial and expanded catalogs of 60 or 131 assets focused on prominent megacap companies and popular ETFs, the current offering of over 1,000 instruments begins to mirror a comprehensive brokerage menu. For international users, particularly those in the 110-plus eligible countries, accessing U.S. markets can often be challenging or costly. A cryptocurrency exchange account that provides fractional, round-the-clock exposure presents a compelling alternative.

Trust and Regulatory Landscape

The 1:1 backing model for xStocks relies heavily on the integrity of the custody arrangements. Holders place their trust in the issuer and custodian to ensure the underlying shares are indeed held in regulated custody.

The exclusion of major markets like the U.S., U.K., and Canada highlights the significant portion of the global investing population currently outside the product’s reach. Any shifts in regulatory stances toward tokenized securities in these key jurisdictions could rapidly alter the addressable market for such offerings.
