Optimism Surges 20% on Unichain OP Enterprise Integration

Optimism Token Surges Amidst Unichain’s Production Handover

The native token of the Optimism network, OP, experienced a significant surge, climbing nearly 20% at its peak over the past 24 hours. This rally occurred following Uniswap’s announcement that Unichain will transfer its production operations to OP Enterprise.

The price increase for OP stood in contrast to renewed selling pressure affecting Bitcoin and several major altcoins, providing the token with a notable boost.

According to data from CoinGecko on October 14, OP recorded a daily gain of 19.4%, reaching $0.1621. This upward movement was directly attributed to Uniswap’s announcement regarding Unichain’s transition to OP Enterprise.

At the time of reporting, OP had relinquished some of its gains, trading around $0.156. Nevertheless, this still represented a 14% increase over the preceding 24 hours and a 28% jump over the last seven days. The token has seen a 64% rise in the past 30 days, though it remains approximately 68% below its value from a year ago.

Trading activity mirrored the price appreciation. OP registered approximately $226 million in 24-hour trading volume, marking a 128% increase from the previous day. The last time the token traded at a higher level was in mid-May, when it reached $0.166.

Uniswap’s announcement on October 9 detailed that Unichain’s testnet migration was slated for October 13, with the mainnet migration scheduled for October 29. This transition will preserve Unichain’s chain ID, contracts, balances, and existing Uniswap v2, v3, and v4 deployments.

Under the new arrangement, Optimism will manage the production infrastructure, encompassing sequencers, remote procedure call services, monitoring, and incident response for both mainnet and testnet. Users of Unichain are not anticipated to experience any changes to their current operational experience.

This handover also positions Unichain for native interoperability across the OP Stack. Once this functionality is implemented, users will be able to transfer assets, beginning with ETH, between Unichain and other OP Stack networks without the need for a bridge.

The price movement of OP is particularly noteworthy given the broader market conditions reported previously. Several major altcoins experienced declines, with NEAR falling around 10%, Zcash dropping over 6%, and both Cardano and Hyperliquid shedding approximately 5%. Ethereum also saw a brief dip to $2,400 before recovering above $2,500.

Zcash appears to have reversed its trend, recouping over 4% in the last 24 hours to trade above $1,250. In contrast, NEAR experienced a further 4% decline, hovering just above $5 at the time of writing.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin had fallen to a low of $80,850 before rebounding towards $84,000. Daily liquidations across the cryptocurrency markets exceeded $800 million.
