Ripple, Robinhood Partner for RLUSD, Institutional Finance Expansion

Ripple and Robinhood Forge Strategic Alliance to Expand RLUSD and Institutional Finance

Ripple has announced a significant strategic partnership with Vlad Tenev’s Robinhood, encompassing stablecoins, treasury management, institutional settlement, financing, and market access. The collaboration is set to place Ripple’s stablecoin, RLUSD, at the core of several Robinhood business operations, further accelerating Ripple’s expansion into mainstream financial infrastructure.

RLUSD to Become Central to Robinhood’s Digital Asset Ecosystem

According to the announcement, Ripple USD (RLUSD) will become a key stablecoin across Robinhood’s entire digital asset ecosystem. RLUSD is already operational on Robinhood Chain and Bitstamp by Robinhood, with plans for its integration into the main Robinhood app later this year. Robinhood intends to leverage RLUSD on the XRP Ledger for institutional settlement, thereby extending its utility within Bitstamp’s institutional business.

Robinhood to Integrate Ripple Treasury for Enhanced Financial Operations

In addition to stablecoin integration, Robinhood plans to incorporate Ripple Treasury into its internal financial operations. This move aims to automate critical functions such as cash and liquidity management, cash-flow forecasting, payments, risk management, and intercompany netting.

Ripple Prime to Bolster Financing and Trading Capabilities

The new agreement also designates a role for Ripple Prime. The platform, formerly known as Hidden Road, currently facilitates lending and margin financing for Bitstamp by Robinhood across approximately 20 digital assets. Furthermore, Ripple Prime clients will gain the ability to trade spot markets on Robinhood’s exchanges. The partnership is slated for further expansion later this year, with Ripple Prime expected to support perpetual trading on Bitstamp. Robinhood boasts a user base exceeding 28 million, while RLUSD has achieved a market capitalization of over $2.6 billion in less than two years since its launch.

Institutional Demand Drives Integrated Solutions

Monica Long, President of Ripple, commented on the partnership, stating, “From bringing RLUSD to retail and institutional markets to helping Robinhood manage its own treasury operations, this partnership reflects growing institutional demand for integrated solutions that support both customer-facing offerings and core financial operations. And that’s exactly where Ripple delivers.”

This development follows closely on the heels of Ripple’s recent expansion of Ripple Treasury, which introduced new 24/7 corporate cash-management capabilities. These enhancements include tools designed to enable eligible businesses to generate returns on qualifying digital assets, such as RLUSD, outside of standard banking hours.

Ripple’s Stablecoin Gains Traction in Traditional Finance

The company behind XRP has been actively integrating its stablecoin into traditional finance through a series of recent agreements. Cross River Bank, for instance, has committed to integrating RLUSD into its banking infrastructure, empowering eligible clients with streamlined capabilities for dollar and stablecoin conversions, cross-border payments, and treasury transfers via a single API.

On the regulatory front, Ripple has secured final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for its national trust bank. This federally supervised platform is intended to support RLUSD reserves and enterprise digital-asset custody.
