MicroStrategy Resumes Aggressive Bitcoin Acquisitions
MicroStrategy, the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has signaled a robust return to the cryptocurrency market following a summer pause, announcing its second significant weekly purchase in as many weeks.
The company’s co-founder and former CEO, Michael Saylor, confirmed the latest acquisition, revealing that MicroStrategy purchased an additional 1,665 Bitcoin over the past week. The average price for this latest accumulation was $85,681 per Bitcoin. This move follows a similar acquisition last week, indicating a renewed commitment to expanding its digital asset reserves.
With this latest purchase, MicroStrategy’s total Bitcoin holdings have now reached 847,666 BTC, acquired at an aggregate cost of nearly $64 billion. The recent surge in Bitcoin’s price over the past six weeks has significantly boosted the value of this substantial holding, which is now estimated to be worth over $70 billion.
In addition to its Bitcoin strategy, MicroStrategy also repurchased approximately $152 million worth of its own stock, STR C. The company maintains a substantial cash reserve, with just over $6 billion in U.S. dollars.
This latest buying spree effectively reverses the sales MicroStrategy undertook during the summer months. The company had paused its Bitcoin acquisitions for three weeks, from late August until the previous Monday. During that pause, it had acquired 950 BTC for $75.7 million, at an average price of just under $80,000 per Bitcoin. Notably, the company had sold Bitcoin at prices well below $65,000 during the summer, while its recent acquisitions have been made at prices of $80,000 and above.
Meanwhile, the company’s stock, STR C, has shown resilience, trading around $98.50. This recovery follows a notable dip to $75 during the summer period.
