SEI Perpetual Futures Launch on OG.com Markets

SEI Token Joins Elite Ranks with CFTC-Regulated Perpetual Futures on US Platform

SEI has secured a spot on a highly exclusive list. North American Derivatives Exchange, Inc., operating as the CFTC-regulated OG.com Markets, certified US dollar-settled perpetual futures contracts for the SEI token on October 8, 2026. The contracts were slated to begin trading by October 12.

This development positions SEI among only five cryptocurrency assets to have CFTC-regulated perpetual futures available on a U.S. platform, joining Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and Ripple (XRP).

Understanding Perpetual Futures

Perpetual futures contracts differ from traditional futures in that they have no expiration date. Traders can maintain their positions indefinitely, provided they meet periodic payment obligations known as funding.

The SEI contracts on OG.com Markets are designed to be perpetual and will settle in U.S. dollars. Their value will be pegged to a reference index that tracks the real-time spot price of the SEI token. Crucially, participants will not physically receive SEI tokens at any point. Instead, traders gain exposure to the token’s price movements in dollar terms, eliminating the need for cryptocurrency wallets, exchange accounts, or direct asset custody.

Funding payments for these contracts are calculated every eight hours. These payments are exchanged between traders who are betting on price increases (long positions) and those anticipating price declines (short positions). The funding mechanism is in place to ensure the contract price remains closely aligned with the underlying spot price.

Accessibility and Market Dynamics

The minimum order size for these contracts is 100 SEI. Given SEI’s trading range between $0.06 and $0.066 in mid-October, an initial position could be established for just a few dollars.

This structure allows eligible participants to take both long and short positions, opening avenues for speculation and hedging. For instance, a project treasury or a fund holding SEI could theoretically use short positions to mitigate potential downside risk without needing to sell their actual tokens.

OG.com Markets, previously known as CDNA, was established as a spin-off from Crypto.com in September 2026, with the transaction valued at approximately $5 billion. In addition to cryptocurrency perpetuals, the exchange has been exploring other product lines, including single-stock perpetual futures.

The dollar-settled nature of these contracts simplifies the process for participants seeking exposure to SEI or protection against its price volatility, allowing them to achieve these objectives without direct interaction with the token itself.

Market Activity and Sentiment Indicators

In mid-October, SEI traded between $0.06 and $0.066. Activity in the broader perpetual futures market remained subdued, with open interest in the tens of millions of dollars. Open interest represents the total value of outstanding contracts. A figure in the tens of millions indicates a functioning market, though not one characterized by overwhelming participant numbers.

The trading volume and open interest on the SEI contracts will be key indicators of developing demand. Funding rates, meanwhile, will offer insights into market sentiment. Consistently positive funding rates, where long position holders pay short position holders, would suggest a bullish trend and crowded long positions. Conversely, persistently negative funding rates would point to bearish sentiment.

It is important to note that perpetual futures typically involve leverage. When applied to smaller, more volatile tokens like SEI, leverage can magnify both gains and losses at a rapid pace.
