Sony Incubation Program Targets PlayStation Games and Anime

Sony Launches Incubation Program for Blockchain Entertainment, Including PlayStation Games and Anime

Sony has unveiled a new incubation program, dubbed Soneium, aimed at fostering blockchain-powered entertainment ventures. The initiative is set to explore applications across a spectrum of content, from PlayStation games and anime to digital collectibles, potentially paving the way for new on-chain gaming and fan engagement experiences. While the program explicitly mentions PlayStation games, Sony has not yet detailed any specific cryptocurrency integrations for its gaming console.

The Sony Onchain Entertainment Incubation Program opened its application window on October 29 and will continue to accept submissions until December 2026. The program is actively seeking startups and creators to develop entertainment products leveraging Soneium, Sony’s proprietary blockchain network.

Selected projects will be eligible for a range of support, including access to technical infrastructure, marketing and business development assistance, community-building opportunities, and potential investment consideration. Sony has stated that the program’s objective is to guide projects beyond mere technical experimentation towards the creation of entertainment products that offer tangible value to users.

Sony’s new initiative encompasses a broad array of entertainment products, extending beyond conventional blockchain gaming. Its target categories include console, PC, and mobile games, as well as anime, manga, music, films, esports, immersive experiences, and creator communities.

The company is also actively seeking projects that utilize blockchain technology to redefine how audiences interact with entertainment intellectual property. Potential applications include digital collectibles, fan communities, merchandise, and experiences that allow users to participate more directly within creator-led ecosystems.

Applicants are required to demonstrate a clear nexus between entertainment, intellectual property, and on-chain technology. While projects must support the Soneium network, the program welcomes multichain approaches provided that Soneium is integrated effectively.

Sony has a prior track record in incubation initiatives. The Soneium Spark program in 2024 selected 32 projects from over 1,700 applications, and Soneium For All in 2025 chose 11 projects from more than 250 submissions. The current program refines this ecosystem-building effort, focusing specifically on entertainment experiences. Sony is looking for products capable of connecting content, communities, and digital assets in ways that foster sustained user engagement.

This announcement follows recent news regarding the Soneium token and Sony’s broader ambitions in the gaming and blockchain sectors. PlayStation games are explicitly listed among the program’s target categories, and the initiative invites independent startups and creators to develop entertainment projects compatible with Soneium.

Anime represents another significant area of interest, reflecting the strong overlap between entertainment franchises and highly engaged fan communities. Sony’s program specifically includes anime and character intellectual property, creating opportunities for developers to explore blockchain-based collectibles and other fan-centric experiences.

The screening and selection process for applications will take place from November 2026 through March 2027, with selected startups commencing support on a rolling basis. Sony has emphasized that participation in the program does not guarantee investment, which will be subject to separate evaluation.

For the time being, the most apparent outcome of this program is Sony’s clear intent to cultivate a robust ecosystem of entertainment businesses built around the Soneium blockchain.
