Saylor’s MicroStrategy Buys More Bitcoin, Pushing Holdings to Record High
Michael Saylor, co-founder of MicroStrategy, announced minutes ago that the company has once again expanded its Bitcoin reserves, following a hint on X yesterday. The latest acquisition, while smaller than some previous purchases, has propelled MicroStrategy’s total Bitcoin holdings to a new all-time high of 848,250 BTC.
The company spent $21.5 million to acquire 250 Bitcoin at an average price of $86,194 per coin. In addition to the cryptocurrency purchase, MicroStrategy also repurchased $192 million of its Series A convertible preferred stock (STRC). Following these transactions, the company’s U.S. dollar holdings have decreased to $5.5 billion, down from over $6 billion just a few weeks prior.
MicroStrategy resumed its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy in mid-September after a summer pause, during which the company had engaged in some selling. The current buying spree marks four consecutive weeks of purchases.
Meanwhile, the price of STRC has been recovering from its summer lows. The preferred stock had fallen significantly below its par value of $100, dipping under $75 at its lowest point. MicroStrategy’s decision to temporarily halt Bitcoin accumulation to focus on rebuilding investor confidence in STRC and its dollar reserves appears to have been beneficial. The preferred stock closed on Friday at $99.66.
