MicroStrategy Continues Bitcoin Accumulation Amid Market Headwinds

Despite a challenging macroeconomic environment, rising inflation, and sector-specific pressures, the world’s largest corporate holder of Bitcoin has continued to expand its digital asset reserves.

Michael Saylor, co-founder and former CEO of MicroStrategy, announced the company’s latest acquisition of 267 Bitcoin, pushing its total holdings to a new all-time high of 848,517 BTC.

In addition to its Bitcoin purchases, MicroStrategy also repurchased $193 million worth of its own stock, STR C. The company’s stock had approached its par value of $100 last week but was rejected, closing Friday below $98.

Navigating MSCI Classification and Market Sentiment

MicroStrategy recently faced a significant development after MSCI finalized new rules that could impact the company. The index provider classified firms like MicroStrategy, which hold cryptocurrency on their balance sheets, as “non-operating.” While the final list of affected entities is expected in three weeks, JPMorgan analysts had previously estimated that MicroStrategy’s removal from MSCI indexes could trigger approximately $2.8 billion in passive outflows.

However, Saylor appeared unfazed by the news, describing MSCI’s actions as “disappointing.” Meanwhile, Ki Young Ju, CEO of CryptoQuant, suggested that Wall Street’s sentiment towards MicroStrategy remains bullish, with the potential MSCI reclassification already factored into the stock’s valuation.
