Tether Invests in EFY Finance to Expand LATAM Stablecoin Adoption

Tether Invests in Latin American Financial Infrastructure Provider EFY Finance

Tether has made another strategic investment in Latin America, this time backing EFY Finance, a regional financial infrastructure provider focused on stablecoin services. The stablecoin giant announced on October 13, 2026, that it participated in EFY Finance’s seed funding round. The initiative aims to accelerate the institutional adoption of Tether’s USD₮ (USDT) and USA₮ (USAT) tokens for cross-border payments and other financial services throughout the region. Tether did not disclose the specific amount of its investment.

EFY Finance’s Services and Reach

EFY Finance offers a suite of services designed to bridge traditional finance and digital assets. These include on-ramp and off-ramp solutions, enabling users to convert local currencies into stablecoins and vice versa. The company also facilitates over-the-counter (OTC) trading for large transactions, bypassing public exchange order books. Additionally, EFY provides digital wallets and payment cards.

The platform currently serves over 25,000 individual and business accounts. It has established local settlement infrastructure in more than 17 countries and supports over 12 different currencies. Key markets for EFY Finance include Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, El Salvador, Panama, and Ecuador.

Regulatory Compliance and Strategic Vision

EFY Finance holds a Digital Asset Service Provider (DASP) license in El Salvador, which provides a formal regulatory framework for its operations, particularly when engaging with institutional clients rather than solely retail speculators.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino emphasized the importance of compliance in his remarks about the deal. He highlighted that regions grappling with inflation and capital controls require financial infrastructure that adheres to established rules.

Andrés Tobón, CEO of EFY Finance, described the partnership as a significant stride toward integrating digital dollars with conventional financial systems.

Expanding Tether’s Regional Footprint

This investment marks Tether’s latest move in Latin America this year. In July 2026, the company injected $20 million into Ualá, an Argentine neobank. While Ualá is a consumer-focused banking platform, EFY Finance provides the underlying infrastructure upon which other businesses and institutions can build.

The inclusion of USA₮ in the EFY announcement is noteworthy. Tether is strategically positioning its regulated products, such as USA₮, alongside its flagship USDT, and EFY Finance offers a direct channel for distributing both tokens.

EFY’s extensive network across more than 17 countries and its support for over 12 currencies grant Tether access to numerous local payment corridors through a single partnership. However, the regulatory landscape for stablecoins varies significantly across EFY’s operating territories, and a license in El Salvador does not guarantee smooth passage in other markets like Bolivia or Colombia.
