TRON Dominates September Stablecoin Transactions

TRON Dominates Stablecoin Transactions, Capturing 73% of September Volume

TRON processed approximately 73% of all stablecoin transaction volume in September 2026, a significant lead over its closest competitor, Ethereum, which accounted for roughly 15%. This dominance is crucial in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, as stablecoins are increasingly serving as the underlying infrastructure for digital asset flows, effectively making those who control the transaction channels influential in the movement of substantial capital.

Tether’s Central Role

TRON’s commanding position is largely underpinned by a substantial concentration of Tether (USDT). During the third quarter of 2026, the supply of USDT on the TRON network reached a record high of approximately $92.7 billion. Concurrently, the global USDT supply remained relatively stable at around $184 billion. This indicates that TRON now hosts nearly half of all circulating Tether, and its share has expanded even as the overall market for Tether has not grown.

Robust Network Activity and Growth

According to the TRON DAO’s Q3 2026 report, stablecoin settlement volume for the July to September period reached $2.2126 trillion, representing a 5.1% increase from the previous quarter. This translates to an average daily transaction volume of approximately $24.05 billion. Network activity also saw a significant uptick, with transactions climbing to around 1.1 billion, a year-over-year increase of 33.7%. Monthly active addresses averaged 18 million, marking a 9.8% rise.

Shifting User Base

Further analysis of transaction data reveals a notable trend: a growing proportion of transfers are valued under $1,000. These smaller transactions typically represent everyday use cases such as remittances, micro-payments, and exchange top-ups. This shift suggests that TRON is increasingly attracting ordinary users, moving beyond a user base primarily composed of “whales” moving large sums. By the end of Q3, TRON’s share of total stablecoin market capitalization stood at 30.2%, up from 28.7% in June. Despite holding less than a third of the total stablecoin supply, TRON facilitates nearly three-quarters of the transaction volume.

Wall Street Milestone and Token Performance

The third quarter also marked a significant development on Wall Street with the launch of the Canary Staked TRX ETF (TRXS) on Cboe BZX on September 9. This fund provides investors with exposure to TRON’s native token, TRX, along with staking rewards. TRX itself experienced a 7% gain during the quarter and was identified as the least volatile asset among CoinDesk’s benchmarked assets.

Intertwined Ecosystem and Revenue Generation

The relationship between Tether and TRON is deeply symbiotic. With approximately half of USDT’s supply residing on TRON, any technical or regulatory disruptions on the network could have a direct impact on the largest stablecoin. For investors, a key indicator of TRON’s utility is its fee generation. The network generated $82.7 million in protocol fees during Q3, linking network usage to tangible revenue rather than solely speculative activity.
