VanEck Unveils Bitcoin-Linked Wealth Builder ETF

VanEck Rolls Out All-in-One ETF Blending Traditional Assets with Bitcoin

VanEck is offering a new solution for investors seeking a diversified portfolio without the complexity of building one themselves. On October 27, 2026, the asset manager introduced the VanEck Wealth Builder ETF, trading on the NYSE under the ticker WBMO.

A Diversified Approach

The fund combines global equities, fixed income, real assets, and a carefully considered allocation to Bitcoin into a single investment product. WBMO is actively managed by David Schassler, VanEck’s Head of Multi-Asset Solutions. Its holdings encompass global stocks, bonds, gold, infrastructure, and Bitcoin, with the fund periodically rebalancing to maintain target allocations. The stated objectives are long-term capital appreciation and current income generation.

Competitive Pricing and Structure

The ETF’s pricing is competitive for an actively managed multi-asset product, with a gross expense ratio of 0.33%, which is reduced to 0.26% after fee waivers. VanEck has committed to covering the fund’s offering costs through at least February 1, 2028. Notably, WBMO does not hold Bitcoin directly. Instead, its cryptocurrency exposure is gained through digital asset exchange-traded products (ETPs).

VanEck describes this approach as part of its open architecture philosophy, allowing the fund to utilize products from across the market rather than being limited to in-house offerings. This new ETF complements VanEck’s existing spot Bitcoin ETF, which trades under the ticker HODL. While HODL offers pure Bitcoin exposure, the Wealth Builder ETF positions Bitcoin as one component within a broader investment strategy.

From Model Portfolio to ETF

The underlying strategy is not entirely new; WBMO implements VanEck’s Wealth Builder model portfolio, which was previously accessible only to financial advisors via third-party platforms. Transforming this blueprint into an ETF broadens its accessibility. Now, any investor with a brokerage account can purchase the complete portfolio using a single ticker, with the fund managing the rebalancing internally.

A Shift in Portfolio Construction

This launch aligns with a broader trend in portfolio construction, where traditional stocks and bonds are increasingly paired with assets considered to offer protection against currency debasement, primarily Bitcoin and gold. WBMO includes gold and Bitcoin alongside infrastructure, global equities, and bonds, treating Bitcoin as one of several diversifiers rather than a core speculative bet.

Considerations for Investors

The net expense ratio of 0.26% is a significant selling point, particularly for investors who might otherwise construct a similar mix using multiple low-cost funds and manage rebalancing themselves. However, there are trade-offs. Investing through ETPs introduces an additional structural layer between the fund and the underlying Bitcoin. Furthermore, the fee waiver is currently guaranteed only through February 1, 2028.

Investors should also recognize that active management means fund performance is contingent on the manager’s judgment. Schassler’s allocation decisions, including the specific weighting of Bitcoin, will play a more significant role in shaping investment outcomes than any passive index rule would.
