XRP Rally Cools as Spot Trading Slows

XRP Spot Trading Plummets Amidst Shifting Market Dynamics

XRP’s spot trading volume has experienced a significant downturn in recent weeks, even as futures trading gains prominence. Data analyzed by CryptoQuant reveals a substantial decline in combined spot volume across centralized exchanges, dropping by $1.943 billion between August 26 and October 11.

Binance contributed $429 million to this decrease, with its seven-day average spot volume falling from $597 million to $168 million.

Other centralized exchanges witnessed a more pronounced slump. Their collective volume contracted from $2 billion to $485.8 million, a reduction of $1.514 billion. This decline was more than three times steeper than the drop observed on Binance. The weakening trend is also evident in Binance’s spot-to-futures volume ratio, a metric comparing spot and futures trading activity. This ratio decreased from 31% on September 26 to a mere 12.7% by October 11.

Currently, futures volume stands at approximately 7.9 times the spot volume, a notable increase from about 3.2 times fifteen days prior. This ratio is approaching its August 16 low of 11%, a period when XRP was trading below $0.99. Despite the token now trading around $1.40, this price recovery has not been mirrored by a similar surge in spot trading activity.

CryptoQuant suggests that traders might be adopting a cautious approach, awaiting more favorable entry prices. This pattern bears resemblance to mid-August, when spot participation weakened relative to futures trading, preceding a sharp price rebound for XRP later that month.

A potential catalyst for the cryptocurrency could emerge from Evernorth, which is slated to commence trading on Nasdaq under the ticker XRPN on October 12th. The company recently finalized its business combination with Armada Acquisition Corp. II, following a fundraising effort that secured over $1 billion through the deal and associated private placements. Additionally, Evernorth holds approximately $300 million in gross cash proceeds.

Evernorth has indicated its intention to go beyond simply holding XRP. The company is preparing to invest in institutional yield strategies, on-chain credit, infrastructure, and other ventures within the XRP ecosystem.

Meanwhile, US-listed spot XRP Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) continued to attract investment last week, standing out against a struggling broader crypto market. These funds recorded net inflows of $11.31 million, despite three of the five trading days showing no reportable activity. Inflows were primarily concentrated on October 6, with $3.14 million, and October 8, when an additional $8.17 million was recorded. These figures have propelled cumulative net inflows to a new record of $1.8 billion.

Furthermore, XRP ETFs have now maintained positive weekly flows for thirteen consecutive weeks, a streak that began in mid-July. Since then, inflows have surpassed $300 million.
